Background

Unionen, Sweden’s largest union for white-collar employees, represents around 720,000 members. A key part of its operations involves providing educational programs for both members and elected representatives.

As part of Unionen's mission to strengthen its members, the union embarked on a blended learning project to train elected representatives in managing workplace reorganizations, including sensitive situations involving layoffs. Unionen selected TicTac, who has previously supplied Docebo as a Learning Management System (LMS) to Unionen, as their learning partner for designing and delivering a comprehensive educational program to address these challenges.

The challenge

Workplace reorganizations are complex and often emotionally charged, especially when layoffs are involved. Unionen's elected representatives need an in-depth understanding of the legal and procedural aspects of reorganizations. They also require training in how to apply negotiation techniques, navigate confidentiality issues and effectively represent their members in sensitive discussions.

The solution

TicTac developed a blended learning solution tailored to meet Unionen's specific demands in terms of training, all packaged and distributed through Docebo. This blended learning approach combined self-study modules with live, instructor-led sessions that could be conducted either online or in-person, depending on availability.

  • Learning journey design: A structured roadmap of 18 hours of learning combining e-learning, webinars, physical workshops, podcasts, and scenario-based training.
  • Content format variety: To engage learners, content was delivered through a mix of traditional eLearning, podcasts videos (such as interviews, case discussions and animated sequences) as well as interactive feedback modules.
  • Practical application through scenarios: The course included an interactive scenario module, allowing participants to simulate a real-world negotiation of a workplace reorganization. Participants faced decision-making challenges and received immediate feedback based on their choices.
  • Instructor-led webinars and role-playing: Participants attended live webinars or in-person sessions, where they could ask questions, engage in role-playing exercises and deepen their understanding through discussion with peers and instructors.
  • Supporting materials: All instructor-led content was prepared with detailed speaker notes and presentations to ensure high-quality delivery, both in digital and physical environments.

The impact

The training program successfully met Unionen’s educational goals by ensuring participants understood the full scope of organizational change, their roles as representatives and the legal framework guiding such processes. The blending of digital and physical training methods helped maintain personal interaction, fostering peer discussion and hands-on learning through role play.

85% of participants reported improved confidence in handling reorganizations.
The blended learning model led to a 90% completion rate, indicating high engagement with the diverse formats of content delivery.
50% faster onboarding of new representatives due to the streamlined and interactive nature of the program.
